Following on from the success of 2015 two more young Southport riders have been sponsored for the next season of races by Mecycle.

James Holloway and Issie McKinnon were presented with a gift of £150 each at MeCycle by Jon Gordon, the Enterprise manager for Autism Initiatives “We are proud to support two young, successful and dedicated cyclists like James and Issie from Southport CC and wish them all the best over the coming season.”

MeCycle is a social enterprise owned by Autism Initiatives, a National Charity that began in Southport. They refurbish donated bikes and sell them through their store in Ainsdale. The Bike shop also sells new bikes and accessories as well as having a fantastic licensed café selling barista coffee and homemade cakes 7 days a week. They offer a range of work placements to people with autism that act as a stepping stone towards employment.

In other news, twenty club riders took on the tough climbs of The Trough for a Good Friday ride. The bunch may have been of mixed ability but the ambition to finish the ride was universal. The ride for many was over 100 miles and around 5000 feet of climbing and more importantly two café stops to refuel. The weather even managed to join in the fun with light winds and the odd sight of the sun every so often.

This week sees the start of the Southport Time Trials, these events have been held weekly over the summer months for many decades and are the staple diet for many local riders from a number of clubs. The start and finish points are the same as last year over the usual 10 mile course and any volunteers to marshal these events are always received gratefully.

The Dolan races reach their climax on Saturday 16th April, the final round will decide the winners and crown the 2016 champions. Once again there has been a huge entrant list and we wish all the riders good luck and fast legs.

As the weather warms up there will be an increase in riders out on the road, if you fancy joining like-minded people then why not contact the club or head down to the club house for a chat on a Monday night from 8.00 pm.
