Monday 21st December saw the annual Southport Cycling Club Christmas Party. There was a good turnout with around 30 club members of various ages, cramped into the club room, ready for festive fun. Some arrived with food such as sandwiches, cakes and brownies; others brought soft drinks for the juniors and something stronger for the seniors to indulge!
The event started at 7 o’clock and finished around 9 o’clock. However, some club members were there earlier to prepare for the evening, putting up the tinsel and a small Christmas tree in the corner of the room, decorated with lights and baubles.
After everyone had arrived, the competitions started, first off there was a track stand competition. Who could do the longest one? One member was very keen and brought his own bike!
The results were:
1. Rosie Walsh – 3.07.6
2. Dan Cosgrove – 2.59.88
3. James Chadwick – 0.11.25
4. Joe Cosgrove – 0.6.96
5. James Holloway – 0.6.90
6. Dan Fisher – 0.3.68
7. David Unsworth – 0.4.31
8. Jamie Merrills – 0.3.04
9. Issy McKinnon – 0.1.34
This was then followed by the puncture challenge, which member could remove the tyre off a wheel in the quickest time?
The results were:
1. David Unsworth – 0.8.31
2. James Holloway – 0.44.65
3. Michael Henderson – 1.30.09
4. Dan Fisher – 1.48.83
5. Issy/Betty – 1.48.83
David demonstrated how fast he has become after all the punctures he has had on the club runs!
Colin then handed the prizes out to the winners and runners up and announced the upcoming events in the calendar for next year. An enjoyable night was had by all who attended.
Wishing all members a very Happy Christmas and a Happy cycling New Year!
