A successful few days for Maddy Scott saw her progress to become a Category 3 rider following a 3rd place and an 8th place in two recent women’s circuit races.
On the afternoon of Saturday May 3rd it was a trip up to Salt Ayre in Lancaster for the Bury Clarion Circuit Race with 15 ladies lining up for the 50 minute (20 mile) race. To date Maddy has competed in two road races and had struggled to stay with the main bunch….but today was different. After stepping up her training over the prior four weeks…..today she was comfortable amongst the bunch throughout the race, even attacking on one occasion, before accelerating on the final lap to take 3rd place and 10 British Cycling points (and £10 prize money!).
A few days later, and after completing the 78 mile Lancashire Lanes sportive, Maddy was again in action this time at the Tameside Circuit in Manchester. Once again this was a women’s only race but this time in the evening and under floodlights with a heavy rain shower to boot. The 30 minute (12 mile) race was soon over with Maddy hanging on to the main bunch and nicking 8th place on the line.
Well done to Maddy for collecting 12 points – achieving her first goal of the season by becoming a category 3 rider after just four races. Now the hard work really begins!
