Just published is “A Corinthian Endeavour”, a very readable history of the National Hill Climb from its first running in 1944.
The author tracked down and interviewed many former champions over about three years as well as visiting classic venues for the championship like the Nick O’Pendle and Winnats Pass. The biggest sections are about Vic Clark, Eric Wilson, Peter Graham, Granville Sydney, Darryl Webster and a scrawny guy from Formby called Jim Henderson, (a Club Member and Five Times National Hill Climb Champion for those who don’t know him). Along the way many other riders get a mention – not least Southport riders Bill Bradley, Dixon Miller, John Parker and Kevin Reilly who all get a name check. Highly recommended.
There are some great old photos in the book and more on its Facebook page,
You can buy the book on-line from here or you can go along to the Rapha CC cafe in Manchester on the evening of July 23rd.
