Covid 19

Another newsletter, another set of lockdown rules, another opportunity for confusion! So let’s cut to the chase – the club’s position as always is that we should follow relevant guidelines and offer appropriate guidance to members. The latest BC guidance, issued November 4th, states:

Under the new restrictions cycling and being active is still strongly encouraged, but there are a number of rules which we must all follow:

• Only ride alone, with those in your household/support bubble, or with one person from another household. If you are riding with a person from another household, you must only ever ride as a pair. For example, two riders from the same household cannot ride in a group of three with a person from another household, unless all are part of the same support bubble.

Stay two metres apart from anybody not from your household/support bubble.

• If you are experiencing any coronavirus symptoms, are self-isolating, are sharing a household /support bubble with somebody with symptoms, or have been told to self-isolate after being contacted by NHS Test and Trace, you should stay at home.

• There are no restrictions on how far or how often you can ride, however we recommend that you stay within your ability level and prepare accordingly, especially if you are riding alone.

We got there in the end!

The 2019 Annual Dinner highlighted a major imbalance in the trophies SCC awards to male and female members. Unfortunately, whilst we had trophies in all categories for males, we did not have trophies for females. Following the dinner, the committee resolved to put this right as soon as possible and Aaron Green ordered 6 new trophies which arrived in the New Year. We had hoped to find a suitable occasion during the season to present the new trophies but…..Covid put a stop to that plan and the 2020 Annual Dinner will now be in 2021…so the winners had to make do with me appearing like the postcode lottery on their doorsteps to ‘present’ their (sanitised) trophies from a social distance.

Maddy Scott

Maddy Scott almost swept the board with her haul of five trophies! Magnificent Maddie won:

Open 10 mile TT; 25 mile TT; Short distance best all rounder; 10 mile TT club record; Senior Female Road Race Champion.

Carole James

But Carole James just stopped her by winning the 10mile TT trophy…not a bad performance for a triathlete!

Congratulations Carole.

What’s on and what’s not?

• Annual club dinner – not on. We had considered a virtual event but we couldn’t work out how to do the buffet.

• AGM – Committee agreed this be postponed until circumstances permit. Should any members take a contrary view please contact me.

• 2020 Hill Climb – Cancelled

• Dolan Races 2021 – Decision to be taken at start of January

• Dates fixed for open TT events and Road Races but events all dependent upon the

Covid situation.

Clubhouse development

At present we have not been able to source quotes for the planned extension that fall within our budget i.e. the grant we have been awarded by Sport England. The committee agreed to pursue the alternative strategy of acquiring a steel container for the storage of race equipment and other sundry items. The container would be sited close to the Southport Eco Centre.

Who’s hot?

Jason Baker has been spotted putting in some turbo charged performances.

Howard Massam has been spotted putting in some performances.

Eddie O’Brien has been spotted.
