Having only been a member for a couple of months Dr.Sally Waterworth has recently returned to the UK having spent the last eleven years in South Africa.
She has qualified for the Worlds Ironman competition which is being held later in the year..
In the short time she has been in the club she has quickly made her mark on club rides and in the evening time trials, however, these are seen only as training as she is preparing equally combining swimming and running.
In addition she also competed in the club road race and gave a good account of herself.
Last night she entered the club evening 25 mile time trial and recorded a time of 1 hour 3 minutes and 16 seconds 1-3-16 and in doing so broke the Women’s club record for the distance previously held by Yvonne Unsworth 1-6-34..in 2003. This is a phenomenal achievement against the clock and is to be congratulated. See full results here
Next up for Sally is the Stafford half Ironman in a couple of weeks, which will add to the preparation for the full Ironman distance event at Belmont on Sunday July 15th…no easy task with a 2 and a half mile swim in open water then 126 miles on the bike followed by a full distance marathon 26 miles…
Added to which she will be entering the National 100 mile time trial in Keswick the week before and to quote her words ‘toughen me up and prep on the bike’.
On behalf of the club wishing her a safe and positive result and every success..
