Harry Taylor Obituary

30th July 2023

Older members of the club will be saddened to learn of the death of former member Harry Taylor. It is someSouthport Cycling Club Harry Taylor comfort that Harry died suddenly on Waterloo station as he was about to set out on a bike ride in the Surrey countryside. Harry was in my class at KGV from 1955 to 1960 as was Graham Bland, known in the club as Sputnik and it was Graham who introduced Harry and myself to the club. On leaving KGV Harry became an apprentice mechanical engineer at English Electric. He later graduated.

Harry teamed up with another former member Ozzie Riley and together they went oSouthport Cycling Club Harry Taylorn the Hippy Trail to Kashmir. That was unsurprisingly the end of his racing career.

Harry’s great love besides cycling was music and on moving to London he joined a ‘pop group’. I recall going to see a performance at a pub in Ealing when Harry was an ace on the keyboards. When he failed to make the charts Harry returned to his first love of classical music and performed for decades all over London.
