Visiter Column – Article 77

I have arrived back from a week’s holiday cycling in Cornwall and I have included a couple of lovely scenes that 
I paused to capture as I explored the beautiful peninsular. Staying with friends near St. Ives very close to the famous Land’s End I was able to get out on my bike on most days finding a plethora of lanes and trails to explore. Apart from the overcrowded train route from Plymouth to Penzance and the necessity to pre-book your cycles in advance of your journey my stay was both exciting and replete in equal measure. Small inland villages were interspersed with lots of Celtic ruins that for the most part were free to visit. The beaches were clean and safe with lifeguards on duty where the tides can be troublesome for the weaker swimmers. In the evening after a social gathering in the ‘hut’ I walked my way to the headland overlooking the deep blue sea that reflected the day’s end in a final sunset.

For those of you who are new to cycling The Merseyside Cycle Campaign have been in existence since 1985 and are a well establish group who campaign on behalf of cyclists in the Merseyside area to ensure that us as cyclists have a pleasant and safe environment in which to cycle. They have had many campaigns that have helped shape the infrastructure we all use today and they also help to shape the future of our sustainable transport system through the pressure they excerpt at both local and national levels. The campaign team are always on the lookout for new members especially those from Sefton as most of the campaign team are from Liverpool but Sefton also need a voice within the borough.

I do hope you had a great day. Just to let you know if you were unaware that the rider that unfortunately collided with a tree on a tricky downhill section is out of his coma but doesn’t remember his accident (it may have delayed your ride for a time as the air ambulance and paramedics dealt with the unfortunate rider). Anyway Simon the rider who was hurt wishes to thank those to have wished him a speedy recovery. If any riders wish to send in their photographs of the event then I will try to show the best ones in the column.

British Cycling has now closed entry to the event online however any person or persons still wishing to participate are more than welcome to sign up on Sunday – Registration is from 8am
