Event re-arranged for 22nd October
Following last year’s very successful club ride to the Velo Cafe, as part of the Cycling Weekly feature on the club, the Club Committee have decided to hold a similar event this year. The purpose is
to have one Sunday ride that is accessible to all club members …. young/old, slow/fast, racer/social rider.
There will be a choice of 3 rides:
A steady ride at about 10/12 mph
A medium ride at about at about 14/15 mph
A quicker ride at about 17/18 mph
All of the rides will start from the club house at 9:00 o’clock, and then meet up again at the Velo Cafe at around 10:30.
It would be great to get as many riders out as possible and to flood the local roads with SCC jerseys….a good advertisement for the club and a rare chance for all club members to meet up on their bikes.
Assuming the wind and rain have calmed down by then!
During the last year there has been an encouraging number of new female members joining the Club.
We would like to make sure that all the information about Club rides is available and also like to provide an opportunity to discuss how we can support and promote women cycling within a Club that is predominantly male.
We have organised a short meeting to take place at the Clubhouse on Monday the 2nd October at 7.00pm. We would love for any female members or non-members to come along. The meeting will be very informal and is planned to take place before other Club members arrive for the regular monthly forum which starts at 8.00pm.
Lou Henderson, one our members and an employee of Sefton & Knowsley “Pedal Away”, has kindly agreed to come along to share her knowledge of all the different rides available in the area.
Here is the proposed agenda for the meeting, but please let us know if you would like to add anything or ask any questions in advance. We hope you will be able to come along.
- Welcome & Introduction
- Current Club Rides
- Other Rides in the Area
- Open up discussion and suggestions

Roy Holmes (HOLMES COACHING) will be attending the clubhouse at 7pm MONDAY 30th OCTOBER to give an informative talk/advice on the benefits of coaching/training/diet objectives/goals etc…
This will be of benefit to members whether or not they are interested in racing,I’m sure we can always learn more about our chosen sport. There will be a Q & A after the session.
Roy is a highly regarded/qualified coach in cycling and is currently a Master Champion in his age group in road racing.
His son Matt is currently riding for the Madison Genesis racing team.
The evening is free of charge.
The annual pilgrimage to the Eureka Cafe. Out and back through the Mersey Tunnel with a visit to Hoylake and a ride along the waterfront from Hoylake to Seacombe providing a fine view of the Liverpool waterfront and the Three Graces. Lights strongly advised given the time of year and particularly through the tunnel.
Meet at Ainsdale Police Station for a 9.15.am departure – return between 3.30. and 4.30 pm.
Rory Buckingham(Spinwell Cylceworks), 19 Wesley Street will be at the club room on;-
7-7.30pm MONDAY 27th NOVEMBER
To give a practical demonstration on bike maintenance.
He will use one of the club bikes but will be bringing his own tools/bike stand.
He has been at his bike shop for only a short while but during that time has built
up a good business, many club members are using his services with satisfaction.
I know it’s been a long time coming but we’ve finally fixed a date.
Richard from PedalPrecision.com is coming to our club house on Thursday, 30th November.
Every cyclist can benefit from a bike fit. In my opinion it’s essential. Especially if you never had one or haven’t had one for a very long time, it’s definitely worth doing. This is for every type of bike (Road, TT, MTB….no tandems).
A personal session will be £50 and take about 45-60min. He will set you and your bike up on a turbo trainer and film you cycling along. This will then be used to analyse your position in slow-mo and tweak it accordingly. Throws out quite cool before and after pictures.
Richard has a vast experience working with all sorts of riders at the Velodrome in Manchester from newbies recovering from back and knee injuries to pro riders. He is also a physiotherapist and will tailor the fit to get you riding. So come and see him if you have any injuries or if you’re riding in discomfort.
Please let me know if you have any question or like to book a session.
Keep pedalling!!
