A group of SCC members numbering about 23 people are travelling to Mons to meet with members of the Dragons Audax club. The plan (for most) is to travel Hull to Zeebrugge overnight on Wednesday, ride to Mons on Thursday (150km), ride the event on Friday (210km), Saturday “free day” ( possibly visiting some famous climbs from the Classics), Sunday ride to Zeebrugge (150km) for the ferry and return home on Monday 4th May.
Details of the event are here
Fleet Moss 212km (132 miles)
A challenging ride through beautiful countryside including the Forest of Bowland and Upper Wharfedale. Climbs include the Trough of Bowland, Lamb & Tatham Fell, Dent & the infamous Fleet Moss. After Fleet Moss the route takes in Wharfedale, Kettlewell, Grassington, Gargrave and Bolton-by-Bowland, a final climb of Chaigley (Walker Fold) through Chipping and back to Claughton. Worth 3.25 Audax AAA climbing points.
Allan Taylor rode this event last year. See his report here
Doffing the cap to last year’s fantastic day out to see the TDF at Buttertubs, we will once again be heading North on Saturday 11th July. Leaving the Plough petrol station at 8:00 am heading for the Ingleton car park (postcode LA6 3HG) by 9:30 am. The ride heads east out of Ingleton, past White Scar Caves, via the Ribblehead viaduct before approaching Hawes and the Buttertubs climb. We will then traverse a clockwise loop of approximately 15 miles before returning to Hawes for lunch. Once fed we will return to Ingleton and then home. Total ride is approximately 60 miles with a couple of tough climbs. Pace will be steady throughout. Expect to be back in Southport around 4:30 pm.
We will be using a new meeting point for the start of Saturday morning club runs.
Open area on Banks Road opposite to the Pumping Station entrance. See map below
This will start with effect from this Saturday (11th July) There is an area with no houses, a turn in where people can congregate and a safer start point for moving off in a number of separated groups without the hazard of negotiating the Plough roundabout.
Club Runs start at 9.30.am.
