2021 CLUB DINNER AND PRIZE PRESENTATION

Words by Club President Colin Baldwin and pictures by Greg Callaghan and Mike Lloyd

With Covid restrictions lifted (for now) the Club was able to hold the club dinner and prize presentation after a break of two years.

The venue was the Old Links Golf Club, back by popular demand.

It was pleasing to see many old and new members in attendance for the evening, particularly after the dreadful period of the last months with social distancing. The room was beautifully decorated and table settings delightful.

The outgoing club Chairman Geoff Caton was mine host who introduced the prize winners, but not before we had been served with a sumptuous three course meal. Big thanks to Jeanette and staff for excellent service.

Club person of the year was Brian Leach (a popular choice) and well deserved who presented the awards to the prizewinners. A special mention was made to Alan Stark for contribution as organiser of the popular time trial events. Unfortunately not all were in attendance to collect awards however those who were able to were warmly congratulated.

A special mention was made to Irene Gunn and her husband Jim who after a difficult time with health issues have been outstanding in assisting with the evening time trials. Irene was presented with a large bunch of flowers in recognition for their commitment
to the club.

Greg Callaghan had been round town scrounging prizes for his ‘rapid raffle’, he met members on arrival to sell the tickets,no one got past him without a purchase! He was ably assisted by the club’s rising Youth rider Melissa Moscrop (no relation to the bike shop)who distributed the prizes around the room at great speed.

A special thanks go to the Social Secretary/Organiser Aaron Green for his energy and enthusiasm in organising the event it is much appreciated.

The evening was concluded with the traditional disco which attracted the more energetic members to dance the night away.

Next year is the club’s 90th anniversary so maybe something extra special will be planned(watch this space),however as Aaron is standing down a new organiser will be needed.

The club AGM is Monday December 6th at 7pm.
